Mason Carter, born Mushahid Syed, is a lecturer in the Department of English at Shah Abdul Latif University, Ghotki Campus. He adopted Mason Carter as a pen name, which has since become the name by which he is widely known. Deeply inspired by Gothic literature, particularly the works of Edgar Allan Poe, he developed a passion for poetry early on and memorized Poe’s poems by heart. His literary influences extend beyond the Gothic, incorporating the ideas of libertarian socialists such as Murray Bookchin, Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, and Peter Kropotkin. This unique blend of gothic and political philosophy is reflected in his poetry, which explores themes of darkness, freedom, and social justice.
