Early Life and Challenges George Gordon Byron, known as Lord Byron or the 6th Baron Byron, was born on January 22, 1788. He was the son of John (Mad Jack) Byron, a British army officer, and Catharine Gordon, a Scottish heiress. Byron's tumultuous childhood was marked by his mother's fiery temper and his own physical challenge of a clubbed right foot. His father left the family in 1791, and his mother passed away in 1811.
