There are several theories of international relations that have been developed over time, each offering a unique perspective on the way that states and other actors interact on the global stage. Some of the key theories of international relations include: Realism : Realism is a theory of international relations that emphasizes the role of power, security, and self-interest in shaping the behavior of states (Waltz, 1979). Realists argue that states are motivated by their own self-preservation and security, and that they will take whatever steps are necessary to protect their own interests (Waltz, 1979). Realists also believe that international relations are characterized by anarchy, or the absence of a central authority that can enforce rules and regulations on states (Waltz, 1979).
